May Update 2022

It is here!

Spring has arrived and the cherry blossoms are appearing on my tree; ready to bloom! Every day the flowers will open up just a little more, until they perfectly achieve their full potential. That is amazing!

In my last blog, I shared that there was a strong possibility that my book would be published soon, and today, my book is published! It has appeared on Amazon and will make its way to other bookstores day by day until it becomes available in 39,000 bookstores. That also is amazing!

It will appear at Indigo/Chapters, Barnes and Noble and other stores in a few weeks (Amazon is just the quickest to post). It can be purchased in paperback or as an e-book.
Please go to the homepage of my website: https://yolandeessiembre.com for all the latest information.

Thank you for all your support and thank you also for helping me spread the word.

April Update 2022

Watch, listen, coming soon!

A new adventure is about to begin.  There is a very strong possibility that Long-Lost Mom will be published this Spring! The editing and interior design are done and have been approved. I love the book cover!  I am looking forward to sharing it with you. The proof reader is now doing a final check and I am learning about marketing. I had to work at changing my attitude about marketing. I viewed the promotion of my book as something to dread until I realized that I have been promoting it all along. Every time I tell someone that I am writing a book, every time I write an update in my blog, every time I participate in a writing course or retreat, every time I do a reading; I’m promoting my book. I already have a website, blog and a mailing list. It’s all part of marketing. With a little help, I can do this!

Stay tuned. More news to come soon!

Update January 2022

January Update 2022

Sometimes, it is hard to believe that spring is right around the corner. Especially, when the winter winds blow, the temperature drops, and my patio furniture is buried under three feet of snow!

I have also discovered that, sometimes, when publishing a book, it is hard to believe that it too will arrive with spring – as mine will! In a whirlwind of instructions and a long list of “To-Dos” (Endorsements, Acknowledgements, Layout, Font size, Book size and cover), the manuscript lies dormant under the details.

Nevertheless, deep inside of me there is a knowing, and there is hope, because spring always comes. And so will my book. I know that one step at a time, one day at a time, one word at a time, the book will be published. My goal is to do so by springtime!

A special thank you to those of you who shared my website www.yolandeessiembre.com and, a warm welcome to all new subscribers. A simple reminder: To read previous blogs simply click on “Blog” on the far-right corner at the top of my web page.

Wishing you health and happiness in this new year.

October Update 2021

October Update 2021

It is time to do something different!

Over the last four years, the first three while writing my book and in the last year while submitting proposals to publishers, it was my hope to be picked up by a traditional publishing house. I thought of this as being similar to obtaining a diploma. It would give me status, credibility and recognition as an author.  I had not given serious consideration to self-publishing as I viewed it as less impressive, less validating, less important. As time went by my ego held on to this notion, until one day a friend asked me if that was what I really wanted. I had to ask myself a very important question: What motivated me to write this book? None of the descriptors above were found in my answer. I had simply felt called to share my story because I wanted to inspire hope to the many women who were still living in fear of being found and to all the adult children who were seeking answers about their past.

Now, I realize it’s time to do something different. As a new author, I do not want to wait for years to be chosen by a traditional publisher. Why not let go the stress of societal expectations, and honour myself and my story by releasing it and letting it take its place in the world? I am happy to announce that I have chosen to publish my book with Tellwell, a self-publishing with assistance company. I have been told the book could be ready in approximately six months. Much work remains to be done and I will keep you posted on the progress in January.

Some of you are asking if you can share my website and blog with friends and family.
The answer is: Yes, absolutely! You would be doing me a favour. It is: www.yolandeessiembre.com

July Update 2021

July Update 2021

A branch from a cherry tree hangs over my patio. In the spring, I spent time contemplating buds forming on the bare branches. Then came the leaves, followed by tiny white flowers. Now, the branches droop, heavy with cherries. I watch them mature. I can reach up and touch them. Some are still green, some yellow-orange, other orange-red and soon they will be ready. Then we will be able to bite into a beautiful, deep red, ripe berry. It will bring nourishment; life supporting other life. In the meantime, there is a process while it ripens. It cannot be rushed or made to be ready before it’s time.

Once more, I am drawn to reflect on the lessons we can learn from nature. I ponder the question: could the process of getting a book published be similar? It starts with an event that sparks the idea to write a book, followed with the writing, the editing, the submissions for publishing and the waiting. It feels like nothing is happening but perhaps it is ripening. Perhaps subconsciously I am not ready to totally let go of it yet. Perhaps I have a few more life lessons to learn until I am ready to truly release it. Perhaps, I am ripening! When I read what I have written in my blog, I see the progress. If you go to my website at https://yolandeessiembre.com/blog/ you can follow my journey of bringing a book to fruition, from my first written blog on January 2019 to today.

I have received a response from a second publisher and his words were also encouraging: “Yours was a very fine manuscript and a great story.” he writes. However, due to the downturn of sales during COVID he did not chose my book to be published.

Thank you for waiting with me
